The BMD-4 paratrooper combat vehicle entered service with the Russian airborne troops in 2005. The car uses a BMD-3 type chassis, but the firepower has been significantly improved. In some cases, the BMD-4 can use its firepower to counter enemy main battle tanks and artillery during landing. Some old BMD-3s were upgraded to BMD-4, and the production of new cars proceeded at a low speed. The Russian airborne troops are equipped with only about 60 vehicles.
This new paratrooper fighting vehicle is equipped with the same weapons as the BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle, with a 100mm main gun and a coaxial 30mm machine gun. Its firepower is far better than the previous generation models. The 100mm main gun can also fire “Bastion” laser-guided anti-tank missiles. This missile can deal with a variety of targets and even attack helicopters within a range of 5.5 kilometers. The effective range of an ordinary 100 mm artillery is 7 kilometers. The 100mm gun is equipped with an automatic loader and can also be loaded with anti-tank missiles. The BMD-4’s 100mm main gun has a rate of fire of 10-15 rounds per minute.
