The point of pride of the Mercedes Benz was for a long time the heavy truck 2238 6 x 4, used for long distance traffic. The truck was propelled by both rear axles and had an engine developing 375 horsepower. It was the heaviest truck in Mercedes for long-distance transport and also imposed new rules on long-distance traffic. The characteristics of the OM 422 engine afforded great vehicle economy. The speed changes were kept to a minimum and allowed very smooth driving.
